ADHD & Learning Assessments
for Children and Adolescents
Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and well as neurodivergence more broadly, is a hot topic right now. Mental health and education services, as well as the general public, have rightly celebrated a move away from a gendered diagnostic lens and a focus on only those who were experienced as disruptive by others. Both scientific literature and popular media have been discussing the significant increase in the diagnoses of ADHD. While there is a broad agreement that increased diagnostic scope and clarity is a positive change, there is also a growing concern that the pendulum has swung too far, and that any inattention or restlessness quickly results in a diagnosis without adequate assessment of what else may contribute to the ‘problems’ often associated with ADHD.
At Person Centred Psychology and Allied Health, we are committed to completing a differential diagnosis. This means we will complete an assessment that seeks to understand all the possible reasons you, or your child or teen, is experiencing symptoms or difficulties.
How will it work?
Assessment will include clinical interview (talking to you) in order to understand developmental history, the things you or your family member is finding difficult, broader mental health and social history, and how your symptoms have varied across time or settings. We will also give you standardised measures to complete at home, as well as recommend in-practice assessments that will support us to understand all the components that may be impacting difficulties.
What will it cost me?
Our assessments are tailored to each individual to ensure we provide the most helpful information and treatment recommendations, without unnecessary testing, therefore we do not have one set cost. However, what we do assure you is that after your initial conversation, your clinician will provide a quote and explain their rationale for the assessments they are recommending.
You can expect that following your first meeting you will be provided with an assessment quote along with a brief explanation for each component of your assessment.
