Director & Principal PsychologistDeborah Newburn is an experienced Clinical Psychologist who practices from a Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT) framework. This allows her to incorporate a relational lens to therapy including evidence informed interventions based in neuroscience and attachment theory. Your psychology sessions will begin with a thorough assessment, collaboration over a shared understanding of the problems you are experiencing, and an a clear rationale for treatment recommendations.
Deborah has experience and interest in working with clients with eating disorders including long standing anorexia, and believes there are more similarities than differences across the diagnostic spectrum, with all presentations being valid, serious, and deserving of care. A strong advocate for multidisciplinary teams, Deborah works closely with dietitians, GPs and specialists to enhance care. Deborah also works with clients experiencing grief, depression, anxiety, and attachment trauma and difficulties. Her approach is oriented towards warmth, honest reflection, and helpful action.
Deborah is a board approved supervisor, and particularly enjoys supervising psychologists looking to enhance foundational skills during their clinical registrar years, and experienced psychologists looking for supervision in working with clients with eating disorders, using compassion focussed therapy, and integrating adult attachment theory into formulation and intervention.
Deborah uses a range of evidence-informed approaches to assist her clients to make changes which reduce symptoms and suffering, and improves their quality of life. In addition to CFT Deborah includes CBT-E, CBT, and the process of therapy to support meaningful and lasting change.
